HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Firefighters are working to extinguish a fire that ignited at the Hopkinsville landfill Friday afternoon.
Around 4 p.m. on Sept. 5, the Hopkinsville Fire Department reported that they were being dispatched to the landfill off of Mounty Zoar-Latham Road. According to HFD, the smoke is visible for several miles away, but the fire is contained to one area and is not a threat to any surrounding structures.
Efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing, with mutual aid requested by the department and heavy machinery on the way to assist.
