HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Decorated with over 4,000 lights, downtown Hopkinsville’s massive tree will be turned on Dec. 13 after the HES/EnergyNet night Christmas parade to officially bring the city into the holiday season. People attending the festivities should bundle up, as temperatures are expected to drop to the 20s that day.
Parks and Recreation Director Toby Hudson told Christian County Now that city maintenance crews will spend two days perfecting the decorations leading up to the tree lighting. The tree itself was grown nearby at Little River Park years ago, with the intention of one day being displayed for Christmas.
The tree lighting will be held around 7 p.m. at Founders Square after the Hopkinsville Christmas Parade makes its way through downtown. Before the switch is turned on, city officials and the community will join together to sing festive songs and share a few words.
The tree lighting will take place at Founders Square in downtown Hopkinsville on Dec. 13 after the Christmas parade, which begins at 5:15 p.m. This year’s theme is “Christmas Vacation,” with President and CEO of HWEA Derrick Watson as the grand marshal.
The parade route begins at Glass Avenue and moves south on Main Street towards 14th Street, marching through downtown past the Christian County Courthouse and heading toward Planters Bank. Residents can expect road closures around the route leading up to the parade.
