HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – On Monday, May 20, Christian County High School hosted a pair of district tournament semifinal games, including the Colonels taking on the Hopkinsville High Tigers for the third time this season. In the end, the Tigers came away with an 8-1 victory to advance to the district championship and end Christian County’s season.
Going into the game, the two sides spilt their regular season, two-game series. Christian County High won the first matchup, while Hopkinsville High won the second, but each contest ended with a one run difference.
However, on Monday, Hopkinsville wasted no time taking control of the game right out of the gate. In the top of the first inning, with one base runner on and zero outs, Zach Moss unloaded on a pitch and hit a home run to center field to drive in the Tigers first two runs of the game.
While Christian County responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning, they would not score for the rest of the game. Meanwhile, in the fourth and sixth innings, Hopkinsville added a total of six insurance runs to put the game out of reach. According to Game Changer, the Tigers enter the 2023-24 district championship with a record of 19-8.
The other semifinal game that was played was University Heights Academy vs. Fort Campbell High School. The Blazers won by a score of 15-0, setting up the district championship matchup between themselves and the Hopkinsville Tigers.
The district championship game is set to be played on Tuesday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Christian County High School.
