HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Hopkinsville Human Rights Commission will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a proclamation signing on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

The signing will begin at 5:50 p.m. at 715 S. Virginia Street, at the City Council Chambers. The city of Hopkinsville and the Christian County Government will join HRC, in reading the proclamation to the public.

Hispanic Heritage Month takes place Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 every year as a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community, according to the Department of Education.

In the past, HRC has hosted forums and events promoting heritage months on their social media.

“Hispanic Heritage month is just one of the many cultural celebrations we recognize each year,” said Executive Director, HRC, Raychel Farmer.

Along with recognizing heritage months, HRC hosts a variety of events. This year, the City of Compassion Committee has partnered with the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County to present the Supper Club and the Compassion Club.

The Supper Club and Compassion Club are designed to build community belonging explains Farmer. “Sharing conversations over books and a meal is a great way to bring people together to share their culture, rituals, and traditions.”

On Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 a.m., HRC will be hosting the 49 Annual Unity Breakfast. This is the largest breakfast event for all of Christian County.
