HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Hopkinsville juvenile is in custody with a terroristic threating charge after making a threat toward Christian County schools on social media. The arrest was made on Sept. 18 by members of the Hopkinsville Police Department Investigations section with cooperation from the Christian County School System and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

On Monday, police were notified of a threat being made through social media platforms by an unknown person to shoot several students. After an extensive investigation, detectives were able to determine the juvenile had custody and control of the device used to create and share threatening messages, and they had also attempted to delete evidence of their involvement, according to a news release from HPD.

“With incidents such as this, we urge community members to share information regarding threats directly to law enforcement. This will allow law enforcement and schools officials to take swift action to ensure the safety of our youth,” said HPD. “Threats of this nature are taken very seriously and will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The juvenile has been charged with complicity in terroristic threatening second degree and tampering with physical evidence. They are currently in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
