HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Hopkinsville- Christian County Public Library has begun a major renovation, with even more construction planned at the end of the year to redo the second floor.
On Sept. 3, ADA compliant renovations to the library’s first floor restroom and elevator began, according to a statement from HCCPL. Grant funding for this project totaling $480,000 was put in motion by the Christian County Fiscal Court in February after two years of delays.
The grant will cover the demolition and structural work that will go into the elevator installation, with the elevator itself costing around $100,000. HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work for the new restrooms will be covered by the remaining funds.
Another major construction project is planned for the library in December, where they will be renovating the second floor. Operations Director Elysa Parks previously told Christian County Now that the plan is to revamp the community room and move the entire children’s department upstairs. This reallocation will allow children’s programming to have their own space and leave more room on the main floor and create a dedicated teen space.
Library Executive Director Tiffany Luna said the entire project should be complete by April 2025. “This renovation will improve the function of the library and the experience our patrons have when they’re here,” she told Christian County Now.
During initial construction, the library will open and function as normal and the second-floor restrooms will be open for use. For more information contact the library by phone at 270-887-4262 or email info@hccpl.org.
