HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As summer vacation approaches the Hopkinsville- Christian County Public Library is gearing up to tackle summer boredom. The Book-A-Bike initiative has been running for a few years at the library and grows in popularity over the summer. The program now grown to encompass multiple locations across the city.

“It’s always fun to see people riding the bikes out on the rail trail along the library,” said Marie-Alice Jasper, HCCPL Communications Director.

Through this program, bicycles are available for a nominal fee of $1 during standard library operating hours. Participants can simply check out a bike at the library’s front desk and have the option to borrow up to five bikes simultaneously. Helmets are also available upon request. With the library’s close vicinity to the Hopkinsville Greenway Trail, people can check out the bike and immediately ride. Jasper told Christian County now the Book-A-Bike program shows the library is more than just books.

Bike rentals are also available at the Sportsplex and the Hopkinsville YMCA.

More programs for summer

Other programs at the library include Epic Hour on Tuesdays, children’s story time on Wednesdays, and Play and Grow on Fridays. Alongside these regular events, there’s a diverse range of activities including knitting and crocheting clubs, as well as the intriguing Dark Reads Club and more.

Upcoming, the library plans to kick off their annual Summer Reading Program where kids and teens can submit reading logs for prizes. Also, as the season approaches, more volunteer opportunities are set to open up, according to Jasper.
