HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight introduced a new push for a Neighborhood Watch program during the Jan. 6 city council meeting. He said the initiative will be launched soon in collaboration between the city and the Hopkinsville Police Department.

Public Information Officer Royale Marfil explained that the Neighborhood Watch will work hand in hand with Crime Stoppers, which was established in Hopkinsville-Christian County in 1984. “Neighborhood Watch programs allow community members to take pride in their neighborhoods and serve as extra eyes and ears for law enforcement when we’re unable to be in the area,” said Marfil. “Together, both programs help keep Hopkinsville-Christian County safe.”

Knight said that safety remains a top priority, and local neighborhood associations will help involve the public once it is up and running. He debuted a sign during the meeting that will be placed in various neighborhoods, which has the Crime Stoppers tip line number along with the phrase, “We’re watching, and we will call the police!”

According to HPD, signs will be put up in participating neighborhoods participating. They are still finalizing the details of the program before offering it to the public. Community members interested in being park of the program will have the opportunity to attend an informative class in the future.
