HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A man is facing assault and kidnapping charges after attempting to jump out of a window with his son and assaulting police officers at Norman Dale Drive Monday night.

After an investigation by the Hopkinsville Police Department, it was determined the 24-year-old male suspect fired one shot through the ceiling of an apartment into another apartment containing four residents. The suspect then got into a physical altercation with his brother over the handgun and the suspects mother attempted to break up the fight, according to a police report. His mother was struck in the face and the brother was later transported to the emergency room for a possible broken nose and ribs sustained during the fight.

Officers arrived and tried to place him under arrest, but the suspect picked up his minor son and placed him between them. He then tried to jump out of the window with his son but was tased and placed in handcuffs.

While walking him to the police cruiser, a police report says the suspect bit an officer causing him to fall down the stairs of the apartment building, injuring his knee. After the suspect was placed in the car, he vomited through the partition onto the officer in the front seat, and later kicked another officer in the chest.

It was determined at the hospital that the man has Hepatitis C, so he is facing additional wanton endangerment charges along with assault since bodily fluids were purposefully exposed to officers.
