HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The City of Hopkinsville has initiated discussions once again regarding the next phase of development at the greenway that includes a bridge over the Eagle Way Bypass. The project would cost just over $6.4 million.

Established in 2013, the current trail starts at the Riverwalk, branching out to the downtown renaissance district and also beyond Pardue Lane Park as shown in a map from the City of Hopkinsville.

Sought after grant money grant would be used towards the design and construction of the third and final phase of the Hopkinsville Greenway Rail Trail, which includes building a bridge to connect the trail to its final point at Tie Breaker Park. This area includes baseball fields, a playground, the Stadium of Champions and Bluegrass Splash Aquatic Center.

In May of 2025, councilmembers also submitted a grant application through the Transportation Alternatives Program. A statement from the City of Hopkinsville to Christian County Now says, “Historically, it can take several years, sometimes up to five, before a community that has previously received funding is awarded again. We remain committed to pursuing these opportunities each year as they become available.”

During the recent Feb. 19 committee of the whole meeting, City CFO Melissa Clayton sought approval to apply for another grant through TAP. The grant stipulates that the city would be required to pay 20% in match funds, up to $1.2 million.

The grant application was approved, and the application was forwarded the city council.
