HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – While road conditions deteriorated over the weekend, the Hopkinsville Police Department was there to offer support and make sure residents got home safely during the snow and sleet.

Over the span of two days, HPD was able to assist 25 motorists who were stranded or stuck on roadways in the city. Officer Royale Marfil told Christian County Now that despite the slick conditions, there were surprisingly no weather-related collisions reported. She said, “We still urge people to stay off the roadways unless absolutely necessary.”

Moving into Monday afternoon, road conditions remain hazardous. CCTV traffic cameras from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet around 2:45 p.m. show that conditions are starting to improve on the I-24, but Fort Campbell Boulevard and I-169 still have large portions of the road covered in ice and snow.

“If people must travel, please give yourselves enough time to travel to your destination, turn your headlights on, give yourselves ample space between you and the vehicle in front of you because braking distances increase drastically in icy conditions,” said Marfil.
