HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville joined the Kiwanis and Rotary Club meeting this week to kick off the kettle bell campaign for this holiday season. This annual kick off is celebrated every year the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
“The kickoff included a trivia quiz that was open to everyone in the room to join via their phone. We also played a silly game and had some more serious moments where attendees were challenged to give of their time and resources this holiday season,” said Lieutenant Lindsey Galabeas, a Corps Officer with the Hopkinsville Salvation Army.
This year’s theme was KettleSaurus KickOff, WHVO hosts attended wearing dinosaur costumes. During the meeting, the Salvation Army announced their goal of raising $100,000, and having 700 volunteer hours for bell ringers. Currently, 598 hours have been signed up for.
“Not only does giving to the red kettle when you see us out and about help us towards our goal, but ringing the bell helps more than you can know,” said Galabeas. “Volunteer bell ringers raise a significant amount of money at the kettle each time they ring. And every hour that a kettle is unmanned is a missed opportunity to reach our goal of $100,000.”
People that are interesting in volunteering to be a bell ringer can visit the Hopkinsville Salvation Army Website, or email the local kettle coordinator at Morley.Prenevost@uss.salvationarmy.org.
