HOPKINSVILLE, KY – With temperatures expected to soar to near 100 degrees all week, The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville is stepping up its heat relief efforts to protect the community from the dangerous effects of extreme heat.
Effective immediately, The Salvation Army shelter, located at 304 East Seventh Street, will remain open 24 hours a day, for at least the next seven days. In addition to providing overnight accommodations, The Salvation Army has opened a daytime cooling center from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. This center offers a safe, air-conditioned environment for residents who may not have access to air conditioning in their homes, as well as our unhoused neighbors.
To further support those in need, The Salvation Army is providing food and cold beverages to shelter residents and those utilizing the cooling center.
“As temperatures climb to dangerous levels, it’s crucial that we provide a safe haven for those in our community who are vulnerable to the heat,” said Lieutenant David Donegan of The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville. “We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure the well-being of our neighbors during this extreme weather.”
The Salvation Army is calling on the community for support to sustain these vital heat relief efforts. Donations are urgently needed, especially cases of bottled water, to help keep everyone cool and hydrated. Financial contributions are also welcomed and can be made online at www.SalvationArmyHopkinsville.org or by mailing a check to The Salvation Army, PO Box 427, Hopkinsville, KY 42241.
“Your generosity can make a significant difference in the lives of those struggling to stay cool in this heat,” added Lieutenant Donegan. “We’re grateful for any assistance our community can provide.”
