HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – With Hopkinsville skies filled with fireworks all night, the community also managed to stay safe during Fourth of July celebrations.

“Every year we plan for and anticipate fire and medical responses but we’re thankful we had zero this year on the July 4th holiday,” said Payton Rogers, the PIO for Hopkinsville Fire Department.

As the holiday weekend continues, he also wants to remind the community to continue using safe practices. People should have a bucket of water nearby to put used fireworks into and avoid throwing them in garbage bins to avoid potential fires.

The city ordinance for Hopkinsville only allows fireworks through 12:30 a.m. on July 5. Kids under the age of 18 need adult supervision, and fireworks cannot be ignited within 200 feet of any structure, vehicle, or another person. Fireworks cannot be discharged on public property, or on someone else’s property without their consent. People who disregard these regulations may have to pay fines up to $1,000 or face imprisonment up to 30 days.
