HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Hopkinsville woman is a lot richer after winning $500,000 on a scratch-off ticket from the Kentucky Lottery, marking the second big lottery she’s had in the last decade.
The local winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, told the KY Lottery that she is still trying to process the shock of the experience. According to a news release, the win happened after she decided, at the last moment, to shop at the Kroger on 1213 Skyline Drive instead of her usual store. When cashing in a $20 ticket, she decided to grab a Hot Money Multiplier Scratch-off ticket.
“When I saw those three zeros, I froze. I couldn’t breathe. I was shaking, I couldn’t drive. I think I may have passed out,” she said. She and her husband visited Kentucky Lottery headquarters to claim her prize, which ended up being $362,500 after taxes.
Somehow, this is not her first time winning big with the lottery. In 2017 she won a $225,000 Cash Ball top prize. Despite the influx of cash, she is not tempted to leave her job, using the winnings to provide “breathing room” for her family. According to the KY Lottery, the money will allow her to help out her daughter and buy a new car.
Also, because of this win, KY Lottery says the local Kroger will receive $5,000 for selling the winning ticket.
