HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – For two days, Founders Square in downtown Hopkinsville was filled with music and food trucks during the 5th Annual Taste of the Town.

Zirconia Vansauwa, owner of Vansauwa’s Tacos & Vegan Eats and organizer of the event, told Christian County Now that she is in awe of the community response. The event kicked off on Aug. 8, where she said crowds turned up for food and karaoke. Saturday, they welcomed patrons at noon, with line dancing and a live performance by the Tina Brown Band.

“Overall it’s gone very well, a lot better than we imagined. You can plan something, and you can promote it, but you never know if people are going to come out,” Vansauwa said.

Although this is the fifth iteration of the event, this is their first time hosting it at Founders Square, with previous years being held at Hopkinsville Brewing Company. Over a dozen vendors from in and around Christian County showed up serving a variety of cuisines including African, Caribbean, BBQ, and more with a focus on black owned businesses.

The weekend event coincided with the Eighth of August holiday, where Kentuckians celebrate emancipation from slavery.
