PEMBROKE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Christian County emergency services collaborated with a member of the Amish community to successfully pull a vehicle from floodwaters Tuesday morning.
On Feb. 18, crews with the Pembroke Fire Department and Christian County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a car stuck in water in the area of Pruitt Lane and Pembroke-Oak Grove Road with a driver and passenger inside.
A person from the Amish community provided assistance by using two horses to pull the car out of the water, according to PFD. The two people were removed from floodwaters, one of them was further evaluated at the hospital due to their feet being submerged in water. Shortly after the rescue, another vehicle was stuck in the same spot after also entering floodwaters.
“We are very thankful for the Amish community’s assistance as they came back out for a second call we had in the same area two hours later,” said Nicolas Belair with PFD.
Deputy Chris Miller with CCSO said this portion of the county is still dealing with water over the roadways. “Don’t chance it. Turn around and find an alternate route,” said Miller. “According to the National Weather Service, it takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away most cars and just 2 feet of rushing water can carry away SUVs and trucks. It is never safe to drive or walk into flood waters.”
