HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with drug trafficking in Hopkinsville after a significant amount of cash and synthetic marijuana was found during a traffic stop.
The vehicle was initially pulled over Monday afternoon when HPD officers noticed the 30-year-old driver was not wearing a seatbelt near East 18th and Walnut Street. A police report states that the odor of marijuana was emanating from inside the vehicle when contact was made. A marijuana blunt was seen in the center console that belonged to the driver.
After an in-depth search, a handgun with an extended magazine containing 19 rounds was found. Officers also found six boxes of synthetic marijuana, two baggies containing marijuana, two pens containing synthetic marijuana, and $4,021 in cash that all belonged to the 20-year-old passenger.
All evidence was seized and logged, both suspects were taken to the Christian County Jail. The driver is being charged with possession of marijuana, while the passenger is facing an additional trafficking in synthetic drugs charge.
