HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville’s current Deputy Police Chief Erik Pacheco has announced his candidacy for Sheriff of Christian County, while Sheriff Tyler DeArmond has confirmed he will seek a third term.

“I believe in a proactive approach to public safety, with a focus on combating drug trafficking and violent crime, while strengthening community policing, and rebuilding effective partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies,” said Pacheco’s news release.

Pacheco has spent his law enforcement career in multiple positions at the Hopkinsville Police Department, also previously serving as a detective with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office.

“As a resident of Christian County and dedicated public servant with 36 years of experience, I am and will continue to be committed to making our communities safer,” said Pacheco in a news release. “My experiences in the military and law enforcement have equipped me with a profound comprehension of the challenges we encounter, as well as the significance of fostering community involvement. My mission as Sheriff will be to prioritize transparency, accountability, and collaboration between law enforcement and the citizens we serve.”

Sheriff DeArmond seeks re-election in Christian County

Sheriff Tyler DeArmond currently holds the job at CCSO, first winning the election in 2018, and again in 2022. He will finish his four-year term in 2026. Soon after Pacheco’s announcement, he confirmed his candidacy in a statement on the same day.

“While I hadn’t planned to make an official announcement this early, the number of calls, messages, and personal conversations I received today made one thing clear, our community wants clarity about the future,” said DeArmond. “I’m deeply honored by the encouragement, and I want to be clear with the people I serve: Yes, I am running for re-election in 2026.”

He continued to say that he believes in the mission of CCSO, and the people of the county, adding that more details about his campaign will be shared in the coming months.

“As sheriff, my duty is to listen, lead, and protect, that commitment will never change. We’ve made meaningful progress, but there’s still more to do,” he said. “I’m seeking re-election because I believe in the people of this county and in the mission of the Sheriff’s Office: to serve with integrity, responsibility, and heart.”
