HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Concluded to not be a Halloween hoax, a package believed to be a regular delivery to a residence turned out to be several body parts.

“When the call came in, she stated that she received the wrong package and she believed that it was body parts that were supposed to be taken to a surgical lab,” Deputy Sara Morris told Christian County Now.

Two deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from residence near Pleasantview Acres just outside the Hopkinsville city limits around 8 p.m. on Oct. 29. Christian County Coroner Scott Daniel was also called to the scene, who was surprised to find that the package contained real body parts.

“They opened the box, and it was literally human arms and fingers,” said Daniel. “We get all kinds of weird calls, you know people digging who might find bones and that sort of thing. We never know what’s next, but we’ve never had anything close to this.”

A brief investigation involving the courier and shipping company confirmed that the package was intended to go to a lab for surgical training. Morris explained that deputies had to verify the intent of the package and confirm that it was not connected to anyone who had committed a crime.

According to the coroner, the box was a regular looking package around two feet wide, with discreet labeling which did reveal the contents. It was retrieved by the company Thursday morning around 9 a.m., which was being held by the coroner’s office for safekeeping.
