HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Reports from the Hopkinsville Police Department show that several traffic stops over the Thanksgiving weekend led to charges for possession of drugs and driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Thanksgiving at 2 p.m., a police report says, a vehicle was pulled over on East Second Street for an obstructed registration plate and failure to use a blinker. After the stop, the driver handed over a marijuana blunt that was in the center console to the officer. The driver also admitted to having cocaine in the vehicle. Several baggies of marijuana were found after a search. The driver was charged with possession.

Also on Thanksgiving, officers approached a vehicle that was parked at the Riverside Cemetary for over two hours. The occupants were found asleep, and officers found synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Two people in the vehicle were charged with possession.

Later that night at 11 p.m., a vehicle was pulled over for not maintaining its lane on South Virginia Street. According to officers, the driver admitted to having a couple of beers before driving, and then failed the field sobriety tests. The driver was sent to Christian County Jail and charged with DUI.

On Friday around 9 a.m., a vehicle was pulled over on Pyle Lane for failure to stop at a stop sign. Officers report that marijuana was seen in the ashtray when they approached the vehicle. After a search, 14.9 grams of marijuana were found inside a backpack in the car. The driver was charged with possession.

On Friday night around midnight, a vehicle was pulled over on Lovers Lane after failing to signal and swerving through the roadway. The driver was quoted by officers saying, “I had a fishbowl of Tequila.” Officers report the driver showed numerous sings of impairment after a field sobriety test. Her 12-year-old granddaughter was in the vehicle as well. The driver was charged with DUI and failure to signal.
