HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Hopkinsville Fire Department has awarded a winner in their 2024 Design-A-Shield Contest. Amelia Williams, a fifth grader at Indian Hills Elementary School, received her design from HFD on a custom shield.
This is the second time the department has put on the contest, which was open to students ages 10 and under for National Fire Prevention Month. Payton Rogers with HFD said they received about 60 entries from budding artists, which were narrowed down to a top five where Williams’ design stood out as a winner.

“She did a great job choosing vibrant colors and we thought it was perfect to help spread our 2024 prevention theme of ‘Learn The Sound of Your Smoke Alarm,'” said Rogers. Chief Futrell, along with the Prevention Division dropped by her school on Nov. 4 to present her shield.
