HOPKINSVILLE, KY – “What started as an experiment last year has become a new Jazz series for this season!” says executive director Margaret Prim. The Pennyroyal Arts Council has curated a new four-show series that will offer a memorable evening of music in a remarkable backdrop on stage at the historic Alhambra Theatre.

The stage will be set as a jazz club, offering two evening shows. This intimate setting with the theater’s acoustic and sightlines is flawless, making it an elegant and comfortable place to spend an evening enjoying jazz. The series will begin on Friday, December 8th, with “Tis the Season: A Holiday Jazz Celebration featuring the Daniel Kelly Quartet. Daniel leads his stellar jazz group featuring a powerhouse vocalist singing all the holiday songs you know and love!

We will present three shows in the Legacy of Jazz Series in the new year, featuring producer and musical director Christian Tamburr. Christian is an internationally renowned vibraphonist, pianist, composer, and arranger with touring and performances in over 71 countries.

On Thursday, January 18th, “The Sirens of Song,” is a tribute to the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, and Beyond featuring Annie Sellick and the Christian Tamburr Trio. Vocalist and musical storyteller Annie Sellick will take you on a vocal journey of some of the most iconic female jazz singers, with insight into how these glorious women blazed their legendary trail.

On Friday, February 23nd, “Too Marvelous For Words,” is a show celebrating the music of Richard Whiting, Johnny Mercer, and the Great American Songbook featuring 2020 NBC’s “The Voice,” Wendy Moten, and Christian Tamburr.

Billboard Chart topping vocalist Wendy Moten can effortlessly explore from R&B and pop to country and jazz. Our final show in this inaugural season will be on Thursday, March 21st, as we present “Unforgettable,” the life and music of Nat King Cole, featuring Grammy-nominated vocalist Clint Holmes with the Christian Tamburr Trio. The music of Nat King Cole brings forth a beautiful mosaic of his incredible songbook through the dynamic and kinesthetic voice of Clint Holmes.
