HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is launching a new auto renewal system in January. A news release from the County Clerk’s Office says that in preparation of the upcoming transition, all County Clerk’s offices in Kentucky will be shut down for any automobile, boat, or handicap placard transactions for the first two weeks of January.
The existing, 40-year-old computer system will be updated to the new windows-based KAVIS system. The update will begin on Dec. 29. The office will reopen on Jan. 2, for all services except auto related transactions.
The news release says, “Transitioning to a new statewide computer system is never easy. With that being said, I encourage anyone who needs to renew their current or expired plates, transfer a vehicle or boat, pay a delinquency or request a handicap placard to come to the office on or before Dec. 28.”
People that normally renew their tags in December should consider renewing online before Dec. 27 at drive.ky.gov.
