HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville Police Officers in the area of Bryan and South Virginia Street heard a gunshot near 11:50 p.m. Wednesday night. They were able to locate where the gunshot came from and approached a 42-year-old man outside a residence on South Clay Street.
When approached, the man admitted to firing the shot and was briefly detained during an investigation of the area, according to an HPD police report. The man told officers that he received a text message from his girlfriend saying there was an unknown male in their backyard.
He claimed to have fired a single warning shot to scare off anyone in the yard, also telling officers that he did not see the person when he fired the shot. The man was cited for discharging a firearm within city limits, and the firearm was seized.
