PEMBROKE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A home in Christian County was struck by lightning Sunday evening after storms came through the area, with the severe weather also causing several power outages in the area. At the time of the storm, the county was under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning with 60 mph winds expected.

Occupants were inside the Barkers Mill Road home when the lighting strike occurred on July 13. According to Chief Nicholas Belaire with the Pembroke Fire Department, the residents detected a burning odor and then contacted emergency services.

Volunteer fire crews from Fairview, Honey Grove, and Oak Grove responded to assist. After an investigation, no fire was found, but an electrical issue was identified. Pennyrile Electric was requested to assist further, and Belair said that they placed a tarp over a large hole caused by the strike.

Simultaneously, dozens of power outages were reported by Pennyrile Electric across Hopkinsville and Christian County. The majority of outages have been restored through the night.
