OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – City offices and the Oak Grove Community Center will remain closed through the rest of the week due to ongoing hazardous road conditions, with public works attempting to clear local roads as fast as possible.
“We’ve got four trucks and nine guys doing the best they can,” said Oak Grove Public Works Director Brian Ahart. The morning of Thursday, Jan. 29 several roads including portions of Stateline Road near Shadow Ridge Avenue and Thompsonville Lane are still covered in thick layers of ice. Heading toward Pembroke, traffic on Highway 115 is moving at a slow pace due to slick conditions.

“I know that there are still several roads out there that are snow and ice packed. We are making our rounds, plowing, salting and doing the best we can to keep as many city streets going as possible,” Ahart told Christian County Now. “I know people are tired of it, I know they are getting impatient…but it’s going to take a few more days.”
Despite the uncertain timeline, he said roads are slowly improving every day, with the sun playing a big part in helping everything thaw. With temperatures expected to dip again over the weekend, crews are concerned that this may further slowdown operations.
As far as state highways are concerned, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is responsible for plowing and clearing the ice in those ares. They recently announced that neighboring counties have been called in to assist state crews in Christian County due to multiple inches of ice directly on the pavement.
In the meantime, Oak Grove residents are encouraged to clear parked vehicles, basketball hoops and items like trash cans off the roads in neighborhoods, so plows have room to get through.
