HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Looming clouds and rain drizzles did not deter crowds from gathering in downtown Hopkinsville for the Veterans Day parade on Nov. 9. High school marching bands and JROTC students from Christian County marched alongside local veterans down the flag lined street Saturday morning with the parade concluding at the Justice Center where a brief ceremony was held to honor veterans.

“Considering the weather, this is a fantastic parade for this year,” said Shannon Lane, the director of the Military Affairs Committee during a ceremony. “We all thank you for your sacrifice and your selflessness to serve our great nation.”

Hopkinsville Mayor JR Knight, Christian County Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam, and Oak Grove Mayor Jackie Oliver all joined on stage for remarks and a reading of Veterans Day proclamation.

“I’m very proud to be in Christian County today,” said Christian County Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam, noting that there was an exceptional turn out for the parade comparable to the annual Christmas parade. “It’s very humbling to see all the veterans and all of our citizen recognizing the ultimate sacrifice and the commitment our veterans have put not only for our community but for this country.”

“If it was not for the veterans, we could not stand here and be proud and be free and do what we do,” added Hopkinsville Mayor JR Knight.
