HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – On Earth Day, agriculture students from Christian County High School accompanied Hopkinsville Beautification to help bring spring to downtown.
Heather Braun with Hopkinsville Beautification said a group of about 20 students were able to plant around 1,000 plants on Tuesday, all of which they grew themselves inside the greenhouse on campus. This is the seventh year the students have teamed up with Hopkinsville Beatification, with the job of filling up most of the 50 planters located downtown.
She added that the students were in good spirits despite the hard work, and they seemed excited to be part of the project. “They always think it’s really cool to be able to put them (plants) in their final homes,” Braun told Christian County Now, “They don’t get ever get to see where the plants end up when they grow them.”
This collaboration comes as students kick off their annual FFA greenhouse sale, where hundreds of plants are available for purchase by the community at CCHS. Beginning last week on April 17, the greenhouse will be open from 12- 4:30 p.m. until they sell out.
Although the work done by the student’s downtown was monumental, Braun and the rest of the department will continue working hard for the next few weeks to ensure every planter is filled along with maintaining the flowers and plants throughout the season.
