HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A traffic stop led to a high-speed chase Saturday night after officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department attempted to pull over a vehicle on West Second Street near North Drive.
The vehicle did not pull over, drove into oncoming traffic, swerved around cars, and reached speeds over 113 mph, according to a police report. When the vehicle reached the Eagle Way Bypass near Dawson Springs Road, the driver jumped out of the car and fled on foot while the vehicle was still in drive. The vehicle began rolling into oncoming traffic, stopping when it hit the guardrail and a Hopkinsville police cruiser.
The driver was arrested, and due to the cold conditions and location of the arrest, a police K-9 suffered from a cut to his eye, and the handler received cuts on his hands. He is facing six charges including fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, and reckless driving.
