HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A 35-year-old man under the influence of drugs was arrested at Westside Park after attempting to leave with a toddler.

The Hopkinsville Police Department responded to a call about a disturbance at the park on Oct. 19 around 5 p.m. where callers described a man that was manifestly under the influence of drugs, according to a police report.

Witnesses at the park said the man harassed one of the mothers with unsolicited physical contact, and then attempted to pick up a woman’s one-year-old child with the intention of leaving the park. The man claimed the child was his, and the toddlers mother told police she has never met him before.

The suspect admitted he was under the influence of what he believed to be synthetic marijuana, and did not have a listed address to give to officers. He was arrested and is being charged with public intoxication, attempted kidnapping of a minor, and harassment.
