HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A 30-year-old man was arrested by Hopkinsville Police on Sunday after leading officers on a high-speed chase downtown.
A police report says the man was initially spotted running a stop sign on East 18th Street around 2 a.m. HPD officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect sped, disregarding several streetlights and stop signs. While fleeing, he sideswiped two cars on North Campbell Street and continued to accelerate to speeds of 73 mph in a 25 mph zone.
The suspect eventually abandoned the vehicle while the engine was running, causing it to roll into a parked car near the 2000 block of Greenville Road. He was located in his nearby residence, and officers reported they smelled alcohol coming from the suspect, who refused a breath test. HPD also discovered the suspect was driving in a DUI suspended license
The suspect is facing eight total charges, including speeding, evading police, and driving on a DUI suspended license.
