HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A 42-year-old Cadiz man was arrested twice in one day after breaking into a daycare center overnight on North Drive and stealing from a car while under the influence of drugs.

Security cameras at the facility observed the suspect on the property between midnight and 2:00 a.m. on Monday. A report from the Hopkinsville Police Department says the suspect was seen attempting to damage a doorbell camera before forcefully entering a fenced in play area. He then broke a lock off of the storage shed and removed some items being stored. Over a two-hour period, the suspect was wandering around the play area, eventually damaging a section of the fence to create an exit.

Later in the morning when the facility opened, an empty, clear plastic baggy was found by a child. According to HPD, the bag had likely previously contained illegal drugs and was left behind by the suspect.

Around 11 a.m. on Monday, the man was apprehended by HPD for an unrelated incident on Bethel Street, where he was seen breaking into a car at the courthouse earlier in the morning. The stolen property from the car was found on him, along with several clonazepam pills. Officers say he was slurring his words and was not able to stand on his own.

Later in the day around 4 p.m., he was located and arrested again at West Seventh Street in connection to the daycare trespassing. He is being charged with third degree burglary, criminal mischief, criminal trespassing, receiving stolen property, public intoxication, and drug possession.
