HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The city’s Lot-Next-Door Program has its first two recipients. The program was established in 2021 with the goal of supplying a purpose to the over 1,000 empty lots in Hopkinsville.
A news release from the City of Hopkinsville says Austin Moss is receiving a vacant lot on Poston Avenue. He plans to develop affordable housing units on the property. A second lot is going to Cross Point Ministries on Smith Street. The church is planning to use the lot to expand their parking.

“I couldn’t be happier for the program recipients,” said Mayor Knight. “This program is proving to be an effective tool in our ‘Growing Home” initiative to clean up our city and advance our quality of life.”
The Lot-Next-Door Program is described in the release as a “sweat equity” program where residents may pay a nominal fee and take ownership of a vacant lot that is located next to an occupied residential or commercial property that they own, following a 12 month period, during which the owner has appropriately maintained the property. Applicants will receive a deed to the property at the conclusion of a 12 month period if there are no findings of violations.
