HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Hopkinsville man suspected of being under the influence of drugs did significant damage to a patrol car Monday evening and is facing a few criminal charges.
On Jan. 5 around 6:30 p.m., officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department were dispatched to Florence Street in response to a disorderly man under the influence of a substance. According to HPD, when officers arrive the 34-year-old male suspect charged the police car and jumped on the hood.
The suspect then proceeded to punch the windshield until it broke and went around the vehicle to punch the driver’s side window in an attempt to get to the officer sitting inside. Additional HPD officer arrived, finding the suspect dancing in the middle of Canton Street.
An arrest was attempted, and the man was tazed twice due to resistance. The arrest report states that the suspect threatened to kill officers while he was being placed in handcuffs. He was transported to Jennie Stuart Health for medical treatment, and is being charged with resisting arrest, criminal mischief, terroristic threatening, disorderly conduct, and public intoxication of a substance.
