HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A man was killed in a car accident while checking the mail Friday night in Christian County, leading to an investigation from sheriff’s deputies.

77-year-old Iredell Bouldin’s vehicle was pulled over on the shoulder of the 1700 block of Lovers Lane with an additional passenger. When the accident occurred, he was leaning out of the car with his door open to retrieve mail from the mailbox. Another vehicle approached heading eastbound on the roadway, drifting off the road and crashing head-on into the stationary vehicle.

The victim was ejected from the vehicle which resulted in serious head injuries, according to a collision report from the Chrisitan County Sheriff’s Office. CPR was performed on the man until EMS arrived, and he was pronounced deceased at Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

The driver of the other vehicle received medical treatment for leg injuries and was suspected by deputies of driving under the influence of alcohol.
