HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Hopkinsville pet rescue is hoping to raise necessary funds for their organization by egging people’s yards for Easter. This is the third year Max’s Hope Pet Rescue has tackled their Egg My Yard fundraiser, which helps them raise money for day-to-day needs while spreading some festive cheer.
Danielle Kelvey became a volunteer at Max’s Hope when her family started the dog rescue in 2011. The organization focuses on rescuing neglected, abused, or surrendered animals, along with pets from the Christian County Animal Shelter who are in need of extra attention or additional vet care. “If we have space, we take them,” Kelvey said.
It started out as just a foster based rescue, but over the past five years they have branched out and expanded into the community by establishing their own rescue center from a vet’s office to house adoptable dogs. Like most rescues, Max’s Hope functions with just volunteers, and is funded off of donations and fundraisers.
“The money that we raise goes directly to the rescue,” said Kelvey. “It goes to either our vet bill, it goes towards food or utilities at the center, or upkeep of the center and our pets.”
Egg My Yard
“We thought this was the perfect way to raise money and help busy parents or busy community members with their Easter needs,” she told Christian County Now. The idea for the fundraiser came from the dread Kelvey faced from egging her yard every year for her kids. She thought this would be a good way to alleviate some of the stress for people, while getting the word out about their rescue.
How does it work? The night of April 19, volunteers will hide up to 125 eggs filled with candy and toys in yards. People are able to dictate details like including dye free candy or money in the eggs. This is open to people living in Hopkinsville, Cadiz, Crofton, Clarksville, Fort Campbell, and the surrounding area.
Max’s Hope can also reach out to the Easter Bunny directly and provide a note along with setting up the eggs. With their strategy, volunteers have the eggs ready for kids to see first thing in the morning.
This year, they are hoping to reach the goal of raising $1,500 through the fundraiser. People can sign up to have their yard egged on the Max’s Hope Egg My Yard registration form, the deadline to pay is April 5. They are also accepting donations of easter eggs and candy to allow them to save all the profits from egg sales.
Prices start at $30 for 35 eggs and go up to $100 for 125 eggs. This is one of a few large fundraisers Max’s Hope tackles throughout the year.
