HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – 13 teenagers were acknowledged at the Oct. 16 Hopkinsville City Council meeting for being selected as part of the Mayor’s Youth Council. Friends and family filled the council chambers as each student was called up to stand alongside Hopkinsville Mayor JR Knight.

This program allows Christian County teens the opportunity to address community issues head on with the mission to engage youth and equip, inspire, and mobilize them to take action that betters the community.

Applications were open to all public, private, and homeschooled youth in their junior or senior year of high school in Christian County. The council aims to provide a voice for local teenagers, while creating a platform to bring forward ideas and enhance their leadership and civic skills. Participants will be able to interact with the Hopkinsville City Council and other department heads and community leaders within the city.
