HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Several officials in Christian County collaborated to post additional safety measures for vehicles on Woodmill Road by installing a sign warning large trucks of a low clearance on an underpass.
Newly elected councilmember Brittanie Bogard shared that along with assistance from Christian County magistrate Mageline Ferguson, DA Neighborhood Association President Ardell Owen, and Hopkinsville Public Works, new signs were able to be erected in the area.
This announcement comes days after the top of a U-Haul truck hit the overpass and got stuck. A collision report from the Hopkinsville Police Department shows that the accident occurred on Jan. 26 around 3:30 p.m. The person driving the truck told police they did not realize it was too big to pass. Another vehicle then crashed into the truck while it was stuck.
Councilmember Bogard had put in a request for additional signage in the area, and Hopkinsville Public Works sprang into action after the accident occurred. Public Works Director Mike Perry told Christian County Now that while the area already had maximum height clearance signage, he considered that not all drivers may be familiar with this type of sign.
Starting on Monday, brand new “No Large Truck” signs were placed on both sides of the underpass as an additional safety measure. In a statement on social media, Bogard shared that the community should use caution when approaching the area, and credited Hopkinsville Public Works for getting the job done so quickly.
