HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The average person may not realize they are passing by secret caches hidden all over the city every day. Geocaching is a fun, free activity that allows people to explore new areas around the community.

Mobile apps like c:geo, or geocaching.com reveal containers that people have expertly hidden around Hopkinsville, and all around the world. Word puzzles, coordinates, and riddles help decipher the exact location of the hidden cache, which could be as small as a film canister, or as large as a mailbox.

Fort Campbell Memorial Park, Jeffers Bend Environmental Center, and downtown Hopkinsville are a few of the locations where multiple caches have been hidden and maintained in plain sight for multiple years. Although it is against the code of geocachers to give away the exact location of a cache, or to get caught looking for one, one of the most interesting finds in the city is located inside the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County.

Alissa Keller, the executive director of the museum, says the cache was placed there years ago by a Hopkinsville citizen who frequents the museum. She says it is always exciting when they notice someone coming in to look for it.

Without giving too much away, Keller mentioned that their cache is particularly tricky to find because it can only be accessed inside during business hours, while most are usually accessed outdoors.

People who find the cache will also learn a bit of history about the building, and have the opportunity to enjoy a visit through the museum.
