HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville native Nancy McGuire died at the age 86 on Oct. 9. She was a retired educator that served many roles at University Heights Academy.

McGuire was born in Hopkinsville, on Jan. 29, 1939, graduating from Hopkinsville High School, and Georgetown College. She taught science at several schools including Christian County High School until she became a founding member at University Heights Academy, according to her obituary.

McGuire served in many roles at UHA including, Chairwoman of the Science Department, Assistant Headmaster, and established the science curriculum for grades 7-12. She taught all the science courses to the students at UHA and received several awards for her passion for education including the Norman J. Wiedmer Outstanding Teacher Award.

To recognize her many contributions to the Academy, The Board of Trustees established an annual award in her name for the outstanding senior science student. She retired from University Heights Academy after 30 years.

Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Donald Marsh officiating and Joe Bufford assisting with burial to follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. until the service time at 1 p.m. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
