HOPKINSVILLE, KY – Lieutenant Nathan Stewart with the Hopkinsville Fire Department has been honored by the National Information Officers Association (NIOA) with the “Best Use of Humor Award” for his creative video featuring members of Battalion 1.

The award comes after more than a hundred submissions were reviewed for this year’s NIOA Awards, putting Hopkinsville on the national stage and shining a light on the lighter side of public service.

The winning video cleverly showcases the camaraderie and spirit within the fire department, reminding the community all that even in the most serious professions, humor can bring people together.

“Public safety is a serious responsibility, but humor is one of the ways we stay connected as a team and with the community,” said Lieutenant Stewart. “It’s an honor to be recognized nationally, but more importantly, it’s a joy to bring a little laughter to the people we serve.”

Mayor Knight applauded the recognition, noting, “As we enter the holiday weekend, this award is a great reminder of the humanity and good humor of our city’s first responders. We’re proud that Lieutenant Stewart’s creativity is being celebrated beyond Hopkinsville.”

The Hopkinsville Fire Department hopes this recognition brings a smile to the community they are proud to serve, proving that even in the most critical roles, laughter remains one of the best tools for connection.
