HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – During the Oct. 1 Hopkinsville City Council meeting, the first reading of an ordinance passed that would provide a separate service for construction companies to remove trash and building materials from residential properties during projects.

Recommended by the Hopkinsville Solid Waste Enterprise Board. The ordinance amends section 93.02(C)(3) of the Hopkinsville Code of Ordinances, adding in a portion that reads, “All contractors are responsible for the disposal of waste, including building material or trash, resulting from the service they provide. A business, landlord or contractor may schedule the collection of building material or trash by knuckle boom service scheduled directly with the Enterprise.”

This service will be provided by Hopkinsville Solid Waste, with minimum rates starting at $75 for removal, and going as high as $275 for full truck loads. The ordinance passed the first reading with a unanimous vote by the city council.

During the meeting, Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight specified that once the second reading of the ordinance passes at the next meeting, they will attempt to alert all contractors of the change.
