HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Local non-profit MC Wrestling hosted their first ever wresting tournament on March 22 at the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex in Hopkinsville. The St. Patrick’s Day themed Leprechaun Classic brought in 163 wrestlers and 32 teams into the city from seven different states to battle it out.
“The event was a huge success,” said a news release from MC Wrestling. “Wrestlers came from all across Kentucky to compete in the event, as well as from Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Georgia, and Texas.”
Along with the competition, there was a fun, festive environment for participants and their families with balloons, a photo backdrop, and a bounce house. This drew around 500 people to the Sportsplex including wrestlers, coaches, volunteers, and spectators.
After a day full of competition, four wrestlers were awarded the coveted ‘Pot of Gold’ Most Outstanding Wrestler trophies. Carter Bradshaw of ACES Youth Wrestling Club won in the Youth Boys Division, Dixie Beasley of Blackman High School Wrestling in the Youth Girls Division, Maddox Birchler of Sparta Junior Bulldogs Wrestling Club won the Middle School Boys Division, and Emma Cheatham of Union County Wrestling Club brought it home in the Middle School Girls Division.
All 6U Division wrestlers were awarded specialized Shamrock medals for their participation in the event, while the top three wrestlers in each bracket were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals for all other divisions.
MC Wrestling has already begun preparations for next year’s Leprechaun Classic, with the intent to make it an annual tradition for decades to come.
