HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Residents in Christian County are still without power after the area was coated in a thin layer of ice over the weekend. While the roads were mostly affected by rain accumulations, ice on tree limbs and power lines has caused outages.
Hopkinsville Electric System & EnergyNet were able to restore power to their affected customers by Sunday evening. Crews were able to repair issues, including a large tree that had fallen onto power lines that served the North Main Street area. Pennyrile Electric members in northern Christian County may still be experiences outages as crews head into a second day of repairs.

“The ice on trees and power lines continued to build throughout the north part of our service area and cause additional damage to the system as the day progressed,” said Pennyrile Electric in a statement Sunday night. They added that more work was done overnight and into Monday, with a dozen additional crews arriving to assist throughout the day.
The Christian County Sherrif’s Office also noted that trees and limbs were beginning to fall in this area of the county due to heavy ice, which can cause road closures and additional damage to power lines.
