HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – For the fourth year, the Alhambra in Hopkinsville will be showing a live performance of The Nutcracker during the first weekend of December.

“It’s just quite magical! It’s great to be able to offer it to our community and stay in your own hometown to go see a performance and bring a young child – your old child, niece or nephew or friend,” said Margaret Prim, the executive director for the Pennyroyal Arts Council.

The classic, family friendly ballet will feature young performers from around Christian County. The dancers auditioned in August and have been through a vigorous rehearsal process. Local dance studio owner Brooke Bailey has been the brains behind the choreography since the beginning. Dancers of all ages star in the show, and often re-audition every year as they get older.

“It’s wonderful to watch them grow into new roles every year. That’s been very exciting for all of us to watch them continue their dance careers,” said Prim, “It takes a lot of arms and parent volunteers and commitment getting these young girls to practice, so it truly is a collaborative effort between the dancers and their parents and our sponsors and our staff and our technical staff.”

Dancers have a few more rehearsals until they kick off performances for students in Hopkinsville before opening night on Dec. 1. Prim thinks the arts are important for any healthy community and encourages people in Hopkinsville to attend and support the talented cast.

Standard seating is $15 for adults and $10 for children with premium seating available. Catch the show Dec. 1-2 at 6:30 p.m. and Dec. 3 at 2 p.m., tickets can be purchased on the Pennyroyal Arts website.
