OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – At the Oak Grove City Council meeting on Aug. 6, council members reviewed bids for a new solid waste franchise to replace the city’s current provider, GFL Environmental, following resident dissatisfaction with the service.

Representatives from several companies, including Stinky Pinky, Impact Waste Service, Waste Connections, and the incumbent GFL, each presented their proposals to the council. County Clerk Lorelynn Fisher detailed the baseline services, with pricing for one trash receptible ranging from $12.80 to $16.90 per home, per month.

“I urge all of our residents to get in contact with your council members to discuss what you would like to see happen with the solid waste franchise,” said councilman John Campbell.

The City Council unanimously agreed to make a final decision by Aug. 16, as they hope to hear from residents in the meantime with any questions or comments they may have. Once the council has selected the solid waste franchise of their choice, an agreement will be in place for the next five years.

Wades Way Park Upgrades

Council members also heard from Interim Finance Director, Matt Egbert, who shared that the city has applied for a park grant to remodel Wades Way Park. “We had a site visit, and it was very productive,” said Egbert. “It included ADA accessible equipment so that was a big piece that we want to try to implement up there.”

Egbert also mentioned that the possible project would include new rubber turf or mulch, and he is currently gathering quotes for these updates.
