OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – At the Oak Grove City Council meeting on Oct. 15, council members voted to put playground equipment for Wades Way Park out for bid, utilizing a playground grant and leftover ARPA funds.
During a discussion about all the parks in need of repair, Council Member Isaiah Spencer emphasized that Wades Way Park is the most frequently used in the area. After much discussion, the council decided to prioritize this project, noting the importance of installing ADA-accessible equipment.
Finance Director Matt Egbert informed the council that approximately $200,000 from leftover ARPA funds would be allocated for updates to Wades Way Park, with an equal amount set aside for new software that has been under discussion. This would leave the city with an estimated $300,000 available for other projects by the end of the year.
“Let’s designate the money and use it if we have it,” said Council Member Edward Cook. “Let’s get our parks improved, let’s use our funds.”
They continued to deliberate about the other parks in the community during the meeting, including the Fire Department Park and the park at the community center, both in need of repairs. “Nothing can be saved from the park behind the fire department,” said Mayor Jackie Oliver. “Everything needs to go there.”
