OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Community leaders convened at the Steering Committee meeting on Friday to discuss plans for the upcoming 50th anniversary event in September celebrating the incorporation of the City of Oak Grove.

During the meeting, the committee discussed various ideas such as organizing a historical bus tour, hosting a themed dinner and culminating the birthday weekend festivities with a community picnic and the burial of a time capsule.

Jean Leavell, a longstanding resident and committee member, mentioned that she is assisting in designing a route for the historical bus tour. This tour will guide residents from the Oak Grove Community Center throughout town, highlighting different aspects of the community.

As for the 50th anniversary dinner, attendees discussed the idea of having various speakers, including Mayor Jackie Oliver, address the guests while they enjoy their meal and the dance floor.

“Everyone is invited to come out and celebrate the birthday weekend,” said committee member and director of Visit Oak Grove, Traci Cunningham.

According to committee member Janet Edwards, the time capsule will include pictures, small artifacts, Fort Campbell memorabilia and other items. During the discussion, an audience member proposed that businesses be given the opportunity to purchase a spot in the capsule to place their business cards. Edwards supported this suggestion and also proposed presenting an award for the oldest business in town.

At the community wide picnic, guests can expect food, music, displayed Oak Grove memorabilia, vendors and lawn games.

The committee decided to have the following events on the following dates:

  • Saturday, Sept. 21- Historical Bus Tour at 10 a.m.
