OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Oak Grove City Councilmember Janet Edwards has announced that she will be running for Mayor of Oak Grove during the November 2026 election. She has shared that she brings more than a decade of legal experience and 24 years of operational management experience while also serving on the city council for 15 years.
“My campaign will focus on economic development, fiscal responsibility and public safety, three priorities that are deeply intertwined and cannot be separated if we want to succeed,” said a news release from Edwards. “If we want a paid fire department, we must first secure a sustainable revenue stream. To achieve that, we need a responsible budget and strong economic development efforts to bring new funds to the city. It starts with smart financial management and strategic growth.”
Her candidacy announcement also emphasized her focus on economic development via the I-24 corridor to bring in revenue for the city and enhance services for residents. Oak Grove City Councilmember and small business owner John Campbell previously announced his candidacy for mayor, who has served on the council for the past three years.
“I am committed to forging a strong, collaborative partnership with Fort Campbell, Hopkinsville, Christian County and Clarksville to better serve our residents and strengthen our shared future,” said Edwards. “By working together we can enhance public safety, drive economic growth and create a more connected, thriving community for all.”
The nonpartisan deadline in Christian County to file for the November 2026 election is June 2. The race in Hopkinsville for mayor, judge executive, city council, fiscal court, constable and more are already set ahead of the May primary. See a full list of candidates here.
